Emerald Thread

Notes from The Emerald Thread by Mordena Babich

Dull dark rose, a scar in a jagged line of red
A round pair of spectacles at the base of the scene with unevenly bent frames
Aram's battered school notebook, a red striped ball for Luce, a small silver-grey knife slicing them away

The bounty of field and orchard  - a tree on a while background, trunk and roots brown from Aram's patches. Leaves big petal shaped pieces of yellow, rose and green
The strength of mountains - forest green trapezoid topped with a triangle of white outlined in green thread just off centre
The light of the stars - sunburst/explosion salvaged from embroidery and Bettine's mother's dress and turned into a comet
On the two sides the old embroidered border of emerald green leaves with darker green twined behind them
Emerald green thread to hold it all together

I am yet to sew the emerald green leaf borders

Bettine sews this learning to sew with her other hand and also with her injured hand so the stitches are intended to be slightly crooked. Some pieces were machine sewed before embroidery over the top to make them more secure.

Edited to add 25/09/11:

Finished!
