Seven Days, Seven Favourite Dresses

Given the forecast sunny weather, last week I set myself the challenge of choosing my favourite dresses and wearing them in a single week. I leave for work at 6:30am so choose my outfit the previous evening by looking at the weather forecast for that day. Most of my dresses are cotton and therefore need ironing.

Sunday: This cute dress was made in Paris in the early 1960s. It has the same shape of a 1950s dress except it hits the knee and no longer and has two large flat pockets on the front. I bought it on ebay a year ago - the pictures were a bit fuzzy and there were no measurements but I was glad I took the chance. The first time ebayer turned out to be a lovely lady who wanted her mother's clothes to go to a good home and sold me this and another dress for £15 each. The checks match my new spring coat (Topshop, new, from a charity shop for all of £10) perfectly. The coat can be seen better on streetstylesnaps.com here.

Monday: This cheerful dress is not vintage but was made from a late 1950s pattern by Alexandra King. There was something minor wrong with it so was sold on ebay for a much smaller price than her usual designs. Who doesn't want elephants drinking champagne on a Monday? This is the most fun print I own.

Tuesday: This dress was shortened in the 1960s to knee length. I bought it from Vintage Clothing 91 Allison Street in Birmingham before it closed down. It's much more casual as it does not require a full petticoat making it the most versatile dress I own.

Wednesday: This 1950s novelty print dress is one of my poofiest and ranks as my favourite for pure cheerfulness and colour. It has a sewn in cotton underskirt and comes with a matching wrap. Bought from Sutton Vintage Fair last June.

Thursday: Another full skirted 1950s dress made in Paris and featuring clouds with French celebration words and wishes. This is the dress I find gets the most stares and smiles. Bought at Lou Lou's vintage fair two years ago.

Friday:  For Bring Your Cat to Work Day, I wore this dress from The People Tree. I rarely wear non vintage dresses because of the large amounts of alterations these require. Luckily this dress had a back zip (rather than a side zip) so I was able to take the waist in by four inches and shorten the straps by 2 inches easily. I love this dress because I love cats.

Saturday: For the best day of the week, I chose my favourite dress of all time a 1950s seafront print dress with a full pleated skirt. Bought from a vintage fair two years ago. I adore the detailed print, the colours - the combination of blue, yellow and red is my favourite ever for clothes - and the clever double layered box pleats at the waist.

These are sure to feature again because I love them so much. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone to take photos for me unless I happen to meet a friend at the weekend. Unless it's very sunny, most mirror photos aren't too good either but I'll do my best.
